As I begin to share with you some of God’s leading ladies in the Bible, know that God chose many to do the work of an evangelist and lead the people closer to Him. Let’s start with the mother of Jesus, Mary of Nazareth. She was a virgin and visited by the Archangel Gabriel, who came to her late in the midnight hour and said, “Mary fear not. You have found favor with God and He will use you to birth Emmanuel.” What Mary had experienced was supernatural because she gave birth without being sexually active. God the Father imparted His spirit inside of her so she could conceive Jesus. I had heard many people teach what they thought was right during a black Jew study. They said that Mary was exposed to her fiance, Joseph. The word espouse means that Joseph was intimate with Mary, which is one of the biggest lies ever told because the Bible states that Mary was a virgin. She knew no man.
The story of Mary of Nazareth teaches us how to have faith so we can believe the impossible. It doesn’t matter if You could see it or not, just believe. She is a woman after God’s own heart, God’s Glamour Girl. She’s His Cover Girl. She is covered and clothed by His Armour of Love.
She was put in a position that she never asked for because God chose her as His Leading Lady. The one who shall be the mother of Jesus.
Later, we find out that there’s another miracle going on with her elderly cousin Elizabeth. God decided to use her and her husband to bring forth a child.
God does not select someone that everyone feels that they capable of doing a job. He doesn’t judge them by their outer appearance, but He looks at the heart. Mary, the mother of Jesus, is assigned to be married to Joseph, and if word gets out that she’s pregnant by law, they would’ve been stoned to death. God knew all the trials and tribulations she would face: pregnancy, and the death, burial, and resurrection of her Son Jesus Christ. God paved the way for her to overcome every obstacle.
Let’s look at another one of God’s leading ladies, prophetess Deborah. You can find her in the Book of Judges. She’s known as the first judge of Israel, a woman with integrity who served in the military, and a wife. Our Bible shares how she would judge the people of Isreal up under a tree. She told them the importance of getting right with God. God used her to tell Barack it was time to go to war. Barack says that he would go if she would go with him. Deborah replies, “Surely I will go, but I must let you know that the Lord is turning this battle over into the hands of a woman.”
An evil commander, Sisera, fled from Deborah and Barak. He entered Jael’s tent and asked for something to drink. Jael gives him a glass of milk and Sisera falls asleep. While he was sleeping, she took a nail and a hammer then drove it into his temple. Not too much is mentioned about Jael after she killed Sisera.
Mary Magdalene, who was caught in the act of adultery, was another one of God’s leading ladies. If someone is caught in the act of adultery, they would be put to death. Mary was distressed when she was surrounded by the crowd who screamed to put her to death. Jesus kneels to the ground with Mary Magdalene and writes in the sand. He said, “He without sin cast the first stone.” No one was worthy of casting any judgment upon Mary Magdalene. Imagine what was going through Mary’s mind, “Jesus just saved my life. He didn’t have to do it, but He did.”
The love of Jesus saved her. Mary Magdalene was not only a prostitute, but she was a woman that suffered from depression and mental illness. She finds Jesus eating at the taxpayer’s house and takes her precious bottles of oil (nard, spikenard, Lavandula, or Lavender) and pours them on his feet. Then she wipes it with her hair. She is well-known for being a faithful follower of Jesus Christ.
Hannah is another leading lady in the Bible. Hannah was unable to conceive a child with her husband, Elkanah. She is tormented by her husband’s other wife, Peninnah. As a result, Hannah’s spirit was broken and she had low self-esteem. Elkanah loved Hannah and told her, “I love you more than all the sons and daughters that I have.” One day in the temple, Hannah prayed to God, “Lord, if you would just have mercy on me and opening up my womb and allow me to conceive a child, I will give this child back to you.” God heard her prayer and she conceived Samuel, who God used mightily to change the nation.
